SOCIETY OF SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL PROGRAMS

The Home Visit

At the heart of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul is the Home Visit Program. This program allows pairs of trained Vincentian volunteers the opportunity to visit our friends-in-need in their homes.  By visiting our friends, Vincentians experience first-hand their living conditions and needs.  Vincentians enter the homes of our friends and allow the Holy Spirit to guide them in their interactions. They open their hearts to the needs of the person and treat them with dignity.  During home visits, Vincentians bring hope and develop friendships with those in need, by listening to them and praying together.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

The Saint Vincent de Paul Conference at Holy Spirit Catholic Church provides financial assistance to our neighbors in need  who are temporarily out of work due to illness or layoffs, and those who are working but do not earn enough to pay for necessities such as rent and utilities. No matter the circumstances, we are here to help our neighbors in need.   Since January 2021, we have done the following:

  • Given about $31,000 to approximately 189 households (with 505 members) to help with their electric, water, gas, and other utility bills. Monies are sent directly to the utility company or to the landlord, as appropriate.

  • Provided $3,100 in temporary housing and hotel rooms to 11 families to help them avoid homelessness.

  • Provided 35 families with about $6,500 in rent assistance.

FOOD PANTRY

The Saint Vincent de Paul Conference Food Pantry at  Holy Spirit Catholic Church provides emergency food assistance to those in need.

  • During May 2022, we provided 95 bags of food to 117 individuals in 41 households.

  • Since January 2021, we have distributed approximately 320 bags of food to about 120 households. This distribution does not include our Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter baskets.

  • We are currently participating in the  Beach Bag program, which provides food to school-age children during the summer months.

Vincent's Closet

The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul maintains Vincent's Closet which contains new and gently used women's and men's clothing that has been donated by parishioners.  Anything from athletic wear to suits is needed and appreciated. You can drop off clothing at the church at any time.
